Africa will have to deal with high food prices - MDD

Aid workers from the United Nations have warned that if the deal to export grain from the Black Sea region ends, there will be a new rise in food prices that will hurt millions of people who are hungry in the countries of East Africa.

The Russian government has frequently said that it will back out of this deal, which was signed by the UN and Turkey in July of last year, to export grain from the Black Sea area.

Russia and Ukraine, which are at war with each other, have come to an understanding. However, Moscow says that it will pull out of the agreement as long as sanctions against it don't stop it from shipping its grain and fertilizer by ship.

When it comes time to renew the deal, a Ukrainian ambassador said he is almost certain that Russia will not sign.

The United Nations thinks that if this agreement falls apart, it will hurt the countries in the east of Africa since most of them rely on the grain grown in Ukraine.

Aid workers from the United Nations said that about 60 million people in the region still face the risk of running out of food. This is why it is feared that their situation will get worse if the grain agreement stops.
