Rafsanjani: We are not surprised that the new government fired Bawa, the head of the EFCC.
Auwal Rafsanjani, the head of Transparency International in Nigeria and the president of CISLAC, said that the suspension of Abdulrashid Bawa, the head of the EFCC, did not come as a surprise to his group.
During an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), he stated, "We are not surprised that Bawa has been suspended because the leaders of the EFCC have been removed by every administration that has come before."
"So, when it comes to getting rid of the EFCC Chairman, we think we know that they will get rid of him, because this government has a lot of politicians who want to get some of their needs met."
Rafsanjani also said that it would be hard for Tinubu to keep working with Bawa because of how Bawa got his job and who he worked for before.
"So they will do everything they can to get rid of everything that reminds them of the past.
"Then there are the leaders who are close to this new government that Bawa is holding by the throat. Then they will be able to see that they will not let you be my servant in front of them."
Rafsanjani is worried about how politics have turned the EFCC Office into a political tool. Instead of making it stronger, politics have turned it into a full tool for fighting fraud and corruption.
Hausa reported the story that Bawa was arrested by the SSS after Tinubu fired him.
Abdulrashid Bawa, who used to be the head of the EFCC, has spent the night at the SSS office after accepting an offer.
Soon after President Bola Tinubu said he was fired, the SSS asked him to join.
The SSS nabbed the Governor of the Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, three days before they arrested Bawa. Emefiele had been fired by Tinubu last week.
As the notice of his suspension says, Bawa was invited and held as part of the investigation that has already begun into his claims and the event.
In a statement posted to his Twitter page at 10:48 p.m., Peter Afunanya, a spokesman for the SSS, stated that Bawa was invited and that he was being held.
Two weeks after a fight between the EFCC and SSS in Lagos, the day after Tinubu was sworn in as president, Bawa was suspended.
The SSS and the EFCC got into a fight on May 30, when the SSS stopped the EFCC from getting into their office in Lagos for almost a day.
The situation didn't get better until President Tinubu stepped in and told them to work closely together.
They wrote that Tinubu had fired Bawa from the EFCC.
Abdulrasheed Bawa, the head of the EFCC, was fired right away by President Bola Tinubu.
Willie Bassey, who is the Publicity Director of the Office of the Secretary to the Federal Government, said in a statement that Bawa has been told to give the Director of activities of the EFCC control of activities right away.
In the statement, it was said that Bawa has been put on hold until the accusations against him have been looked into.
When Ibrahim Magu left the EFCC, Bawa took over, and he did the same things to the EFCC that Magu did.
History shows that no EFCC head has ever been able to finish his term and leave without being removed.
Nuhu Ribadu, Farida Waziri, and Ibrahim Lamurde were all taken off the list.
The reason Bawa was suspended or the charges against him have not been made public yet.
But don't forget that Bello Matawalle, the former governor of Zamfara State, said he asked for a fee of two million dollars, which the EFCC has already said is not true.
The EFCC told Matawalle that it thought he stole 70 billion Naira from the government of Zamfara. This is why he feels so bad about himself.
