My new name, Grace, was inspired by a meeting with God. Charles Bassey
Many people were shocked when actress Grace-Charis Bassey, who used to go by the name Belinda Effah, announced on social media that she was changing her name. She had spent years building up her name as a brand in the movie business.
Many people tried to guess what might have led to her choice, but the actor told Sunday Scoop that it was a conversation she had with God.
"I didn't just choose to change my name," she claimed.
I changed it because I met God last year and He gave me the name Grace instead of Belinda. I myself had wanted to change my name for a long time. Belinda has various meanings. Some say it means "beauty," but Linda really means "snake." So, Belinda means "Beautiful Serpent" in English. God has always known everything, and He knows what's best for me, so He changed my name.
The actor also said that she was excited about her new name, even though she would have to spread the word about it. "This is like marketing to me. To get back to the front, you need a plan. I'm really looking forward to doing this. I don't mind renaming. People already know the face, so all they have to do is connect the (new) name to it. Branding changes happen all the time in business, and my case is no different. I'm not a different person just because I changed my name."
People often say that women from the states of Cross River and Akwa Ibom have a high libido. The actor said she thought it was rude to ask her about this. But she said, "I think it's something personal." People say the same thing about Igbo people when they say they like money. Sex is a personal thing to do with someone you care about and care about you.
Bassey also thought that people who raped or hurt children should be put to death. She said, "I really don't know anything about sexual abuse. But I've been seeing that rape is a hot topic, and it makes me sad. Several of the movies I've been in have been about rape, and so was the first movie I made. I think the government should be stricter about the problem. I think the government isn't doing enough about this, and it looks like they're actually giving rapists a green light. We hear about adults and children being raped, but the government doesn't seem to do anything about it. I think that people who rape women should get the death sentence, so that they think twice before grabbing the next woman they see to satisfy their sexual urges.
When asked about her current projects, the actor said, "We just started a reality TV show called Nollywood Queens. I am one of the "queens" who will be on TV for the next few weeks. Every day, the cameras watch what we do. I'm planning a fashion show for my fashion and living business, Grace-Charis Bassey Empire. I have a lot going on."
