The ousted president of the Republic of Niger, Mohamed Bazoum has spent 80 days in detention with his roommate and son since the military overthrew his government on July 26, which has made his future uncertain.

Bazoum, who was democratically elected to lead the country in the West African region, has so far insisted that he will not step down from power, where he has even sought a legal solution.

Despite calls by the international community and many organizations for his release, the new military government of Niger turned a deaf ear to the demand.

Since this coup, Bazoum has been detained in his house inside the presidential palace, which is next to Yamai, the seat of the government of Niger, together with his wife Haziza and his son Salem, and his lawyer from Senegal, Mohamed Seydou Diagne said that nothing has changed in about his situation.

Some close associates of the ousted president told the French news agency AFP that he is being held in a situation where there is no electricity and no drinking water.

The sources said that food is delivered to the president every two days, while his doctor visits him regularly.

Doctor Bazoum Mohamed added that the ousted president is in good health, as are his wife and son, and that he is standing on his own to refuse the request of the military that made the coup that wants him to sign the resignation letter.
