Some Igbo Tribal Protection Groups say that Tube Emefiele's arrest is a form of gender discrimination.
Some groups that want to protect the Igbo tribe from the South-South and South-East say that the removal of the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and his detention by security agencies show that the government of Bola Ahmed Tinubu has started to discriminate against the Igbo tribe because of their gender.
But experts think that steps have already been taken to fix the problem.
The Supreme Council of Igbo Culture, also known as OHANEZE N'DIGBO, has spoken out against President Bola Tinubu's decision to suspend Godwin Emefiele as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria. This decision was seen as a sign of the tribe. Igbo female discrimination.
This is what the group said in a statement that was shared by Mazi Chima Uzor, who is in charge of National Affairs for the group.
Uzor said that Emefiele's ban didn't follow the law, so his group thinks it was done on purpose to get rid of Igbo people from government jobs. But the foreign economist Shuaibu Idris Mikati said that if the music changes, so must the dance.
Mikati said that investigations into the Central Bank of Nigeria have shown that wrong things were done when Godwin Emefiele was in charge. He said that loans were given for agricultural subsidies, but the people who got the loans did not get the subsidies, even though the rules have been followed and some of the money has been given back. Mikati said that the same thing had happened with the exchange of dollars, except that a person had to be given a lot of US dollars without doing any work and then told where to go to change the dollars in the back market, just so that a person could get to know the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria. Mikati said that this kind of cheating can't be stopped until the country has a President who cares about the poor.
Yusha'u Aliyu, an economist and financial expert, said that Emefiele was fired because of the claims that they were singing things on CBN without following the rules.
Yusha'u said that the National Security Agency told him that it had taken him to look into some of the policies he had put in place, especially the changes to the economy that did not work in the past. Yasha'u said that it is possible to get rid of someone from their job if a study like this is done.
On the other hand, Ahmed Babba Kaita, who used to be a senator for North Katsina and served that area, said that this move by Tinubu's government will help the country. Babba Kaita said that the probe shouldn't just focus on Emefiele. Instead, it should also look into the Kabal and other people close to former President Mohammadu Buhari. Babba Kaita said that he will back Bola Ahmed Tinubu if the investigation will include all government departments.
The National Security Agency's spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, said in a statement made today that the agency will ask the court to keep Emefiele in custody while he is being questioned.
